Tax Return Form

Australian Income Tax

The Australian government has decided that as of 1 January 2017, backpackers on Working Holiday Visas will only have to pay 15% tax on their wages, but without the possibility of tax refunds. Until now, the tax rate was 32.5% with a refund up to a certain amount. But claiming this refund was very complicated, and the refunded tax money only arrived when you were back home.

The new 15% flat tax means that someone working on a Working Holiday Visa will receive more wages in the hand than before giving you more money to spend travelling.

In addition, since July 2025, the Australian minimum wage has risen and is now A$1010.00 per week or A$25.25 per hour for 20+ year olds.
